Huawei has been making their own processors since a quite long now to be used in their own phones. Huawei is widely known for its Sub-Brand Honor and Kirin processors. The company has unveiled their latest flagship-level processor – Kirin 960, on a press conference held in Shanghai. The Kirin 960 is the successor to the Kirin 955 which was used on many devices on the past.

Taking about the processor itself, it has eight cores which is built upon big.LITTLE architecture. It has 4 ARM Cortex-A73 cores and 4 Cortex-A53 cores which will be coupled with all new ARM Mali-G71 MP8 GPU which is considered to be the best GPU for gaming. Huawei claims that the new improved processor has 15% improvement in CPU efficiency, GPU’s efficiency is increased by 20% and all of the above graphic performance has been increased by whopping 180%. The new SoC supports LPDDR4 RAM and the support for 4G LTE Cat 12/13 is also provided which drastically improves the uplink and downlink speeds.

The test conducted between iPhone 7, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and a device powered by Kirin 860 was put on test and the result came out to be really surprising. The Huawei device pulled ahead of the other two when it came to launch speeds of 13 of the 14 most popular apps in China.

The Kirin 960 will probably power the next flagship Mate-9 with the support of CDMA technology and the possibility of existing dual camera setup just like Huawei P9 is higher on Mate-9.
