Phone manufacturers on IFA 2016 are launching new phones like crazy. Sony is also no exception, they have launched their new phones Xperia XZ and Xperia X compact. Xperia XZ is the flagship of the year from Sony.
Sony Xperia XZ
This is the flagship model of the year 2016 which is the successor to Sony Xperia X. This phone gets a refreshed design language featuring a metal body, the back is flat so is the top and bottom of the phone. Xperia XZ features a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display powered by Sony’s Triluminos technology. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC and 3GB of RAM, The fingerprint sensor is embedded on the side-mounted power button, and a dedicated shutter button. Sony has also offered 64GB of internal storage on the dual-SIM variant, and the single SIM variant comes with 32GB of storage. Sony clearly mentioned that 12GB of this storage will be consumed by the phone’s firmware, but you also get microSD expandability. Sony has also followed the market trend and has included the USB Type C port, the battery is rated for 2,900 mAh capacity with Quick Charge 3.0. Xperia XZ is water-resistant with an IP65/68 rating.
It comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, but the Nougat update should be coming soon. The camera department has got major changes, Sony Xperia XZ houses an IMX300 23MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture with 4k video recording. The camera utilizes a hybrid image sensor that utilizes color detection, phase detection, and laser auto-focus which is developed upon Sony’s “Triple Image Sensing” technology. This technology allows users to take lag-free shorts even without the presence of OIS. The front camera is a 13MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. The device will be available in early October in Mineral Black, Forest Blue and Platinum colors. Sony has not mentioned anything about pricing but it should be around the last year’s flagship Xperia X, it will be available to buy around October.
Sony Xperia X Compact
The Xperia X Compact can be said to be the small sibling of Xperia XZ because it carries the same design language. The difference is that as a premium device Xperia XZ offers metal build but Xperia X Compact gets plastic build. The phone has a screen of a 4.6-inch 720p IPS LCD display. Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes out of the box. It is powered by Snapdragon 650 SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. It also comes with the latest USB Type-C port with 2,700 mAh battery and Quick Charge 2.0. But sadly Waterproofing is absent.
As the camera department goes on the Xperia X Compact, it houses the same camera unit with all the features as its elder sibling Xperia XZ, only the missed out part is 4k video recording. The front camera is changed to 5MP. Color options include Universe Black, Mist Blue, and White. Price is not announced but they said it can be bought from next week.
