Samsung has unveiled its latest flagship on a press event in New York, and it is gorgeous by every means. The infinity display and design are a pleasure to look at however, it is not surprising because the design and specification have leaked for a few months now. Maximum of those leaks and rumours were true. Yesterday – Samsung launched Galaxy S8, S8+, 360 camera, Doct etc.
Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+ has a remarkable display that covers around the left and right corner and extends to the top and the bottom and the home button replaced by On-Screen buttons. The Galaxy S8 features a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display, while the Galaxy S8 Plus sports a larger 6.2-inch screen. Both displays have a resolution of 2960 x 1440, resulting in a pixel density of 570 and 529 PPI, respectively. Powering both the device is Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (2.35GHz + 1.9GHz) or Octa-core Samsung Exynos 8895 (2.35GHz + 1.7GHz) coupled with 4GB of RAM and internal storage of 64GB which can further be expanded up to 256GB with MicroSD Card Slot. There are two variants of processor and we don’t know which one will come here in Nepal as of now, but we can assume that from Samsung’s past behaviour that the Qualcomm variant will be for US and Exynos will come to power the Global variant.
As the home key is gone – Samsung has included pressure-sensitive just like the iPhone and provides a decent amount of feedback. The Fingerprint reader is also included but you will find yourself stretching and adjusting because the placement of fingerprint reader on the top next to the camera is a bit awkward, normally fingerprint reader is placed lower to the camera where the index finger tends to rest. For those who are wondering about the headphone jack, good news for you the 3.5mm headphone jack is still present.
We have seen many phones with a dual camera but Samsung has not gone with that trend and has included the 12MP rear-facing camera which is not upgraded perhaps it is the same camera that came with the S7 last year. The 12MP sensor on the back is as yet one of the best around, offering fast snaps and awesome pictures in low light. This year Samsung has included something many refer to the multi-frame image, which takes three snaps and finds the best one, so the quality ought to be enhanced. The front camera has got upgraded to 8MP and got some cool effects mode. Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ comes with Android 7.0 Nougat.
Both the devices have an IP68 rating which means it is water and dust resistant and can withstand being submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes. New AI called Bixby is available and what makes it different from Siri, Alexa and Google Now is the fact that it has three main factors – completeness, context awareness, and cognitive tolerance. Powering the device is 3000mAh and 3500mAh battery for S8 and S8+ respectively. The new chipset inside has been improved to offer 10% more CPU power and 21% better management on the GPU, so everything should fly along faster and with more efficiency. Wireless and Fast charging don’t miss out here though Samsung hasn’t given an exact number on how quickly it can charge up we assume 20-25 minutes of charge can give back a third of the power.
Talking about the availability S8 and S8+ are stated for global release on Friday, April 21. Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will be available in the US for Pre-Orders starting at $750 and $850 respectively. Availability in Nepal is still unknown, we will let you know when it gets announced.
